About Swedish Dishcloths

As you might have figured out the Swedish dishcloth was invented in Sweden! But did you know that it was invented already in 1949 by a man called Carl Lindquist. He was tired of the clohts they used that didn't absorb that much and wanted to develop a new type of cloth.

At the time he was working at Nordisk Silkescellulosa AB where they produced a type of sponge made of cellulose. He saw that the sponge had great characteristics which he wanted to transfer to a flat cloth. He experimented in his own kitchen and succeeded, the Swedish dish cloth was born!

In fact it is mostly in Sweden, Finland and Germany where this kind of cloth is staple goods and to be found in everybodys kitchen. For some reason, we just can't live without them! That is how good they are!

So, how should you look after it? First of all we recommend that you always rinse the cloth in cold water after usage and then hang it on a dish cloth rail to dry. That keeps it fresh longer! Then they can either be cleaned in the washing machine in 60 degrees or in the top rack of the dishwasher. Alternatively, they can also be boiled or microwaved (when damp) for one minute.

The Swedish cloths are made of earth friendly material;  70% cellulose and 30% cotton. In fact, once the cloth reaches the end of its service life you can put it in the compost where it decomposes in 6-8 weeks!

We hope you will love the Swedish dishcloths as much as we do! Happy wiping!
